Repatriation doctors and nurses will need equipment to meet
the anticipated medical needs of patient. For an air ambulance
repatriation, this could include an electronic stethoscope
audible against a background of cabin noise, a heart monitor
and defibrillator to monitor and if necessary restart a stopped
heart, a pulse oximeter to analyze oxygen concentration in
the blood, a blood sugar monitor, electronic blood pressure
monitor, a chest drain kit, and an intubation kit permitting
control of the patient’s breathing in an emergency.
Suction equipment may be needed to clear blocked passageways,
along with the means to set up an intravenous drip if necessary.
Also needed may be a range of injectable drugs, plus tablets
and capsules for all eventualities.
All of this is available on Meera
Air Ambulance aircraft as part of their intensive care fit-outs,
but repatriation doctors will also come prepared with their
own equipment and may draw on Meera's
extensively stocked medical store for extra resources. Anything
from dressings to a complete incubator for new born babies
can be signed out from the store. Recommended medical equipment
and supply lists guide medical staff departing for escorted
repatriations on scheduled aircraft or on other companies’
air ambulances.
